Ayurveda, for those who don’t know, is a 3000 year old medical science from India. It deals with the whole mind-body-system and unlike Western Medicine it stresses the importance of prevention. I will discuss it in varying detail over the next weeks and months. I have experimented with some practices and remedies and they really do work, for me. In this section I will share some of my experiences.
First up, a remedy. It is fast approaching that time of year when everybody has a cough and all manner of ‘bugs’ start flying around the office / workplace. If you feel the beginnings of a cold or sore throat try this remedy. I took it first thing in the morning and last thing at night for 2 or 3 days.
Simply boil a pint of milk in a small pan and then simmer for a minute or so. During the simmering add two finely chopped cloves of garlic and two teaspoons of turmeric. Drink.
It doesn’t sound particularly pleasant but in reality it isn’t that bad, quite sweet in fact. Don’t forget to eat the garlic at the bottom of the glass! Anyway let me know how you get on.
I’ve turned in to something of a garlic fiend lately, so I’ll have to give this a go. Anything that helps ward off colds and coughs is well worth a try.

although this year i am joyously unexposed to the office bugs you mention i too am keen to partake of anything preventatively medicinal. that said i am not overly eager on the milky aspect of the recipe. i do not tolerate milk you see?
is there such thing as an Ayurvedic crumpet topping and/or is it possible to use an evaporated clove/garlic mixture with crumpets?
Mark congratulations on avoiding those office bugs. This may sound absurd but you could apply a Garlic Butter to your crumpet about half way through grilling. I haven`t tried it myself and so cannot comment on the taste.
